Chai Vang Killed 6 Hunters in Wisconsin Hunting Incident A Minneapolis hunter, Chai Soua Vang, was asked to leave a deer stand located on private property in Wisconsin. The situation escalated, and Vang opened fire on the property owner and his hunting guests, killing six and wounding two others. It was November 21, 2004, just one day after deer season opened in rural Sawyer County, where deer hunting is a way of life for hundreds of local sportsmen. Vang, a resident of St. Paul, Minnesota, is a Hmong American from Laos. He became lost while hunting in the area and asked two hunters for directions. He ended up on 400 acres of private property and climbed up on a deer stand he found there.   According to investigators, Terry Willers, co-owner of the land, rode by the site and saw someone in the deer stand. He radioed back to the hunting cabin where he and 14 others were staying, asking who was in the stand and was told that no one was supposed to be in it. Willers said he would ask the hunter to leave the stand. Others from the private party drove their ATVs to the scene. When told to leave the deer stand, Vang complied and began to walk away from the scene. As he walked away, five members of the hunting party, including  Bob Crotteau, who co-owned the property with Willers, confronted Vang. Someone in the private party wrote down Vangs out-of-state hunting license number- correctly posted on Vangs back- in the dust on his ATV. According to survivors of the incident, Vang walked about 40 yards away from the party, took the scope off his Chinese style SKS semi-automatic rifle,  turned and began to fire at the private party. Three of the hunters were shot in the initial burst of fire including Willers who was the only other man in the group who was carrying a gun. Rescuers Shot At Someone in the hunting party radioed back to the cabin and said they were under fire. According to Sawyer County Sheriff Jim Meier, as others from the cabin arrived at the scene, unarmed, to try to rescue the wounded hunters, they too were shot.  Some of the victims had multiple gunshot wounds. Vang fled the scene and became lost again. Two hunters, who were unaware of the shooting incident, walked him out of the woods. As they left the woods, five hours after the shooting, a Department of Natural Resources officer recognized the hunting license number on Vangs back and took him into custody. Vang was held in the Sawyer County Jail. His bail was set at $2.5 million. Killed in the incident were Robert Crotteau, 42; his son Joey, 20; Al Laski, 43; Mark Roidt, 28; and Jessica Willers, 27, the daughter of Terry Willers. Dennis Drew died of his wounds the following night. Terry Willers and Lauren Hesebeck survived their gunshot wounds. Vang Calm After Shootings According to Sheriff Meier, Vang is a U.S. military veteran and a naturalized citizen originally from Laos. Meier also said Vang appeared to be mentally stable. Meier said in a press conference that Vang remained remarkably calm and had not confessed to shooting anybody. He described the suspects calm as frightening. Shooting Was in Self-Defense Vangs version of the events that took place before the shooting began differed from what the members of the surviving hunting party reported. According to Vang, Terry Willers shot at him first, from about 100 feet away. Vang began shooting in self-defense.   Vang also claimed that race was a factor and testified that, during the verbal exchange, some of the hunters made racial slurs, calling Vang a chink and gook. The Trial The  trial took place on September 10, 2005, in Sawyer County Courthouse. The jury was selected from Dane County, Wisconsin, and bused 280 miles to Sawyer County, where they were sequestered. During Vangs testimony, he told the jury that he had feared for his life, and did not begin shooting until the first hunter shot at him. He said that he continued to shoot at the hunters that approached him, sometimes multiple times and sometimes in the back. Vang said that he shot two of the hunters because they were disrespectful. He also said that, while he wished it had not happened, (referring to the shootings), three of the hunters did deserve to die.   The defense showed inconsistencies in the statements given by the two survivors. Lauren Hesebeck admitted that he had previously told his wife that he thought Terry Willers returned fire. Willers said he never shot at Vang. Hesebeck also reluctantly admitted that he had previously stated that Vang was lambasted with profanity and at one point Joey Crotteau blocked Vang from leaving. Vangs attorney attempted to clarify Vangs statement that three of the men deserved to die, saying that it was due to a language barrier and what Vang meant was that the three mens behavior contributed to the situation that led to their deaths. Verdict and Sentencing On Sept. 16, 2005, the jury deliberated for three and a half hours before returning a verdict of guilty of all charges - six charges of first-degree homicide and three charges of attempted homicide.   The following November he was sentenced to six consecutive life terms plus seventy years. Nadars studio was in a new building, which was a rather modern edifice; and the entire effect of their efforts caused a sensation. For the average audience, the art looked strange, the exhibition space looked unconventional, and the decision to show their art outside of the Salon or the Academys orbit (and even sell directly off the walls) seemed close to madness. Indeed, these artists pushed the limits of art in the 1870s far beyond the range of acceptable practice. Even in 1879, during the fourth Impressionist Exhibition, the French critic Henry Havard wrote: I confess humbly I do not see nature as they do, never having seen these skies fluffy with pink cotton, these opaque and moirà © waters, this multi-colored foliage. It was a way of observing the city, the suburbs, and the countryside as mirrors of the modernization that each of these artists perceived and wanted to record from their point of view. Modernity, as they knew it, became their subject matter. Mythology, biblical scenes and historical events that had dominated the revered history painting of their era were replaced by subjects of contemporary life, such as cafes and street life in Paris, suburban and rural leisure life outside of Paris, dancers and singers and workmen. The Impressionists attempted to capture the quickly shifting light of natural daylight by painting outdoors (en plein air). They mixed their colors on the canvas rather than their palettes and painted rapidly in wet-on-wet complementary colors made from new synthetic pigments. To achieve the look they wanted, they invented the technique of broken colors, leaving gaps in the top layers to reveal colors below, and abandoning the films and glazes of the older masters for a thick impasto of pure, intense color. It distinguishes knowledge from belief hence what we claim to know must be true, if mere belief, it is true or false (Lagemaat 24). As such, believing that something is true does not make it true. According to the correspondence theory of truth, we can know if something is true through our sense experience while for coherence theory, a proposition must match with what we know to be true. Knowledge can also be true if the majority of people believe in it (Dunn, n.p). For pragmatists, the truth is whatever is useful to us.

Globalization is term that is being deemed as something new on this planet in the world of business. Truth be told, globalization has been going on for centuries and centuries. Business trade done with other countries and regions of the world occurred and has spawned exploration and commerce from the time Europeans traveled to Asia for spices, South America for various ores of metal, and Africa for diamonds. Globalization is not new, however what is new is the technology and rapidness of communications with the information age, e-commerce, low cost manufacturing, and availability of trade. For instance, in the United States, corporations are able to do business with businesses with countries that have a low cost of labor. Some of the companies in countries where there are no child labor laws, minimum wage standards, or even sweat shops, are able to secure contracts with U.S. corporations for lower prices than factories and businesses within the U.S. can provide. In addition there are tax breaks for  doing business with certain nations. This is profitable for the corporations but devastating to the United States employees. The middle and lower class workforce on the blue collar level suffer because of lack of employment. Without employment, unemployment benefit payments rise, homes are lost, healthcare is unaffordable, higher education is unattainable, and poverty and crime increases. Unless citizens are able to tap into the information age and develop businesses that tie into e-commerce and self-employment, they are doomed. They cannot maintain the lifestyle they had before, they cannot afford to pay their taxes, and unless U.S. citizens can keep up the amount of taxes for both themselves and to make up the difference for the tax breaks given to the major corporations, the United States stands to run into larger deficit.

You’ve heard of tinder, POF, christianmingle.com, and match.com. These websites claim to find you perfect matches. They say love is right around the corner with their website. These websites make it so you, the searcher, has the opportunity to meet tens of hundreds of women in search for that special person that will steal your heart. These dating sites have become huge in today’s society in meeting new people. Dating sites were a good idea back in the day. However, if you go to google and search the word online personals you will find the online dating scene has evolved. There are roughly 15 million so called dating sites today and that number rises daily. A law suit was filed against Yahoo a few years ago stating the web site deliberately and intentionally created false or non-existing profiles to make matches for their clients to keep them interested in the dating scene. Customers would pay a monthly fee to try and find their match or women of their dreams. Meanwhile, yahoo was making false profiles to make people believe they had finally found that special person or had a potential match and paying a fortune to keep them around. In 1996 Yahoo tried to get the courts to dismiss the complaint on grounds that it was barred by the CDA or Communications Decency Act. This act was the first notable attempt by the United States Congress to regulate pornographic material on the Internet. The courts rejected the argument and stated that yahoo would have to become an information content provider. (Miller, 2014) Another dating site by the name of Match.com had a similar lawsuit filed against them. This company however took it to the next level. The have hired employees who would do something called a date bait. These employees would send bogus emails back and forth with customers and would even go on actual dates with these people. An employee stated, â€Å"They had gone on as many as 300 dates a month.† The employees would do this to keep customers paying for the use of their website. (Miller, 2014) This lawsuit has yet to be resolved and Match.com remains the leading online matchmaker to this day. I had a friend who had just gotten out of a very long relationship and wanted to get back out there  and start dating. Her problem was she had been out of the dating scene for so long she honestly did not know where to even start. She decided she would try out one of these so called dating sites and see if they actually worked. She told me that she did the site for about two weeks. During these two weeks she received hundreds of messages from creepy guys looking to hook up. She told me, â€Å"Half of the guys I messaged weren’t even real people.† What she meant by this was that the people she messaged were automated, not real, and responded to every request they received to try and get money out of you. An article in the Huffington Post stated, â€Å"A model is suing Match.com for 1.5 million dollars.† The model is suing Match.com because the website allowed ove r 200 fake profiles be made using her pictures. The people creating these profiles with her pictures are talking to people and actually getting to know them and then asking them for money for multiple reasons. Some people are actually sending the money and being scammed as the person they are talking to is never heard from again. Online dating has evolved immensely since the 1990’s. It used to be a credible source to meet people and go on actual dates. Now a days, in the 2010’s, any mention of online dating is usually mentioned because someone tried scamming you out of money from Nigeria or some other country. Lawsuits are being filed all of the time on the websites because people are being scammed but the websites are winning because you agree to terms and agreements.
